Course Brief: The course aims to enhance participants’ understanding of the principles and practices on rights-based approaches to development and their applications to various development sectors in order to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Course content the concept of rights-based development, the challenges of implementing rights-based approaches and achieving MDGs, the roles of development agencies and NGOs, globalization and human rights, mechanism for making rights-based approaches work, and rights-based approaches programming. The approach includes case studies, best practices, and exposure visits to development agencies working on rights-based approaches to development on governance, social or economic rights.
