Professional Development Course on Livestock Production for Sustainable Livelihoods

AIT Extension in collaboration with Punjab Resource Management Program (PRMP), Government of Punjab, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is running a 2-weeks (17-28 January 2011) professional training course on “Livestock Production for Sustainable Livelihoods” at the Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand. 20 relevant government officials from Punjab are attending the program.

This course is specially designed for District Livestock and Veterinary Officers from the Livestock and Dairy Development Department, Government of Punjab. The course aims to improve participants’ knowledge and capabilities in planning, implementing and managing small-scale livestock development programs and projects through introducing traditional and modern livestock production and product development techniques, and familiarize them to practices that promote sustainable livelihoods in Thailand. The course content focuses on planning for livestock development projects, livestock nutrition and health, animal production extension, organic firming, quality control and traceability, and farmers’ institution strengthening. The content also includes case examples on several aspects of farming, economic and marketing management of livestock and livestock products. In addition, field visits to Thai livestock department, research and extension stations, small-scale and commercial poultry, dairy, beef fattening and small ruminants farms are integral to the course.
