Before joining AIT, he was the Sub-Divisional Engineer in the Computer Unit of Monitoring cell of Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB). He was responsible for installing and maintaining the computer center for monitoring the foreign aided projects of BWDB.
Karim joined AIT in 1989, working in the areas of IT training and consultancy services, first for the Regional Computer Center, and since 2001, with AIT Extension.
As an IT specialist, Karim has served as a team member of several IT consultancy work and has served as a joint principal investigator of IT projects on Geo-referenced Information System for the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Environment. He was the course director and coordinator of a number of IT training programs on Operating Systems, Geo-referenced Information System, Project Management, Financial Analysis, Systems Analysis, MIS, Programming Languages and Productivity Software Tools.
Karim has served as the principal investigator of several energy engineering projects on capacity development for the clients in Bangladesh, Bhutan, Pakistan, Taiwan, and Nepal during the last ten years. He was the technical director of the Energy Distribution Services Management and Technology (EDSMAT) Program of Pakistan Electric Supply Company (2012) sponsored by the World Bank.
He served as the principal investigator of "Power Sector Capacity Development Program (PSCDP)" for Power Division, Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources (2012-2013), ADB Loan; "Water Management Improvement Project' (WMIP) of Bangladesh Water Development Board (2012-2015) funded by the World Bank; "Technical and Managerial Capacity Development of Bhutan Power Corporation (BPC) Limited" (2015-2018); "Technical and Managerial Capacity Development of Dhaka Electric Supply Company (DESCO) Limited officials" (2016-2019); "Institutional Strengthening of PGCB Project" (2018-19) funded by the World Bank; "Technical and Managerial Capacity Development of Power Grid Company (PGCB) Limited Officials" (2017-2020); "Disaster Risk Reduction and Management" for the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, Government of Bangladesh.
He is currently serving as the program director in the field of energy, water engineering, disaster risk reduction, and management. He has trained courses on computer-aided Project Management, Financial Analysis, Geo-referenced Information System and Productivity Application Software. Karim has prepared more than twenty training manuals and handouts on different IT and Engineering training courses.
