Participants: Agricultural extension and rural development officers, farm and agribusiness managers.

Course Brief:
This course aims to enhance participants’ ability to plan the development of agribusiness entities, to implement new agribusiness entities, and strengthening existing ones. Course content includes agribusiness development planning, operation planning and management, agribusiness promotion and extension techniques, micro-finance, new agriculture/food technologies, and relevant case studies and study visits.

Participants study cases related to planning and operation of producers and traders in various agribusinesses entities such as vegetables, fruits, poultry, and dairy products. Field visits are organized to agribusinesses, farmers’ groups, agricultural cooperatives, small and medium-scale contract farms, food processing and preservation group, to have first-hand experience of various aspects of agribusiness development opportunities and operations.

Tentative Course Contents:

  • Agribusiness Development Planning
    Overview of rural agribusiness development; farm income and investment analysis; strategic agribusiness development planning; production resources and market analysis.
  • Operation Planning and Management
    Production planning and budgeting; agribusiness contracting; value-added product processing; appropriate post harvest technology; financial and cost accounting, auditing and control.
  • Agribusiness Promotion
    Overview of agricultural marketing; entrepreneurship development; agricultural credit and financing; agricultural cooperatives; consumer behavior; producer empowerment.
  • Extension Techniques
    Training needs and contents identification; selecting training methods and techniques; media selection and message design; planning and implementation of extension program.
  • Case Studies and Study Visits
    • Case studies on planning and operation of producers and traders in various agribusinesses entities such as vegetables, fruits, poultry, and dairy products.
